Why am I randomly tracking threads that I have not replied to, been mentioned in, or have not elected to follow?

if you read a thread long enough it will automatically track it since discourse thinks you have interest in it based on the amount of time you viewed it.

What a horrible feature. How do I turn that off? I prefer to do my own thinking

Nevermind, I found the setting and fixed the issue.
