Why is systemd hated so much?

Hi all,

I have seen some Linux distributions being systemd “free”, and some people hating on systemd and use distros like Void.

What is wrong with systemd? I don’t see any reason why systemd should be avoided.

I don’t think systemd is hated - but those who cannot adjust - are very vocal about it

And for me - I couldn’t get my head wrapped on sysvinit and what not - so systemd is as simple as it gets.

For what its worth I had the same problems as you with sysinit everything thrown all over the system it felt like devs just said can’t be bothered with this and chucked the whole init system over there shoulder and the components just stayed wherever they landed.

What's the deal with Systemd?

I vaguely understand what Systemd is and its functions. Always made me curious though when I saw people complain about it and how it’s the literal devil. Why though? Only people who like it or are indifferent about it provide actual answers (that it’s rather bloated and tries to do too many things, though it’s easy to use?), whereas people who hate it just yell that they do so with foam coming out their mouth. I’m not looking for a reason to hate it, I’m not even in a position to have an opinio…
