It seems in only major releases the wallpapers change. But, for example, Titan Neo and Nova had their own wallpapers that doesn’t get added locally, as they are minor releases I guess. And I didn’t know that as a default wallpaper user, so I downloaded them seperately when I noticed them having their own wallpaper designs.
Why is that? Wouldn’t be some flavor for these minor releases fun too?
I suspect this is because the focus of each ISO release is focused on fixes and improvements with the system and not so much focused on branding. The wallpaper only shows that a Minor update has taken place since the last Major release. The next Major release will include the branding as the focus is on everything then and not just bug fixes and improvements.
That’s the thing. Wallpaper doesn’t show the minor updates, it only shows major.
Plus it would be a really nice touch in my opinion. People would feel that they are supported and even before a major release, they are still receiving updates.
Again the Wallpaper on the ISO is only to show its a minor release.
Also note that it is not needed to download the new ISO to install it as it’s only improvements to the ISO and not necessarily the installed system. One should only download the ISO for an install when its necessary (ie hard disk failure) as long as you keep your system updated sudo pacman -Syu or yay/paru you will always have the latest edition.
Okay? We already receive branding updates on each major release, and as you said, minor releases already include those wallpapers in ISOs. So why can’t they also be pushed to the already running systems?
We are a small team. We have lives outside of the distro. If this is something you would like to take on perhaps give @Bryanpwo a message and ask if you can help.
I don’t want to disrespect at all, I am sorry if I misunderstand you.
But wallpapers are already done by the community from what I see. On each announcement page, you are crediting different people for their design. So I am not actually asking you to make one each release, if that’s what you understood from my request.
Since @UncleSpellbinder is the main contributor for EOS wallpaper/artwork, there’s no need to create a pkg to include the wallpapers in each release like how Arch, Debian and other major distros do. You can always get the wallpapers from the thread mentioned above. However, it would be helpful to include the placeholder (forum thread, github if any, etc) in the release notes.
I don’t know that I’d call myself “main contributor for EOS wallpaper/artwork”. Certainly not “artwork” in general. I was lucky enough to have been asked by @Bryanpwo a couple of years back to contribute a release wallpaper. It’s just lasted this long. And it is an honor to contribute to EndeavourOS in any form.
If you would like to have all my EndeavourOS wallpapers available on your system (which includes the official release wallpapers dating back to 2024), do this:
To update anytime I add a new walpaper, simply enter the directory created and run git pull.
An example in my case would be the following (your directory will be different, of course).
cd /home/wombat/EndeavourOS-HD-Wallpaper/
─❯ cd /home/wombat/EndeavourOS-HD-Wallpaper/
╭─ ~/EndeavourOS-HD-Wallpaper main ────────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10:14:34 AM
╰─❯ git pull
Already up to date.

Normally, minor releases like Neo and Nova don’t carry new wallpapers. The latest release, Titan Nova, wasn’t originally scheduled to be released, but since the upcoming major release brought us more work than anticipated, we hastily released Titan Nova because there were some bugs on Titan Neo with certain graphics cards.
So, we released the ISO at the very last moment, and Joe didn’t realise Titan Nova had a new wallpaper, so he treated it as a regular interim release. That’s why it wasn’t pushed on running systems.
The new wallpaper was my idea to add, because of the big hiatus between Titan Neo and Titan Nova. Also, Joe started a new job recently, so he was juggling time and overlooked this minor feature.
This is still a hobby project for all of us, so these kinds of “mistakes” can happen.
Ah of course, I understand now. Thank you for all the details you provide. It is just an idea that popped up on my mind. It would be just a new flavoring, as I usually keep my systems closer to their distrobution’s branding (actually kinda unwilling to change them lol).
Thanks for your contributions and explanation. I want to help if it is possible on this branding thing, is it possible?
