What benefits do you expect Wayland on Budgie will bring to you personally?

Well to be honest just that Wayland is more secure and that budgie is a really great alternative to GNOME
Especially since it works better for my middle weight pcs

Budgie is so slow on development that they hurdles another distro.

Vanilla OS 2 likely won’t have GNOME 45 because Magpie who depends on GNOME’s Mutter hasn’t been updated in Debian Sid.

If Debian Sid were to force GNOME 45 update, Budgie will break.

I just wish when Joshua Strobl wrote this: https://joshuastrobl.com/2021/09/14/building-an-alternative-ecosystem/ – all those years ago, he would have the resources to back his word up.

Rumours says they lack Resources. Maybe Budgie enjoyers would be willing to donate.

In deference to your link, the mission/priorities in the Beatrice era are much different now in the post-Beatrice era for reasons that don’t need mention. So the ‘keeping one’s word’ things not real fair imo. Koto, for instance, was always a personal project that was independent of solus or BofB financing.

That said I know what you are getting at. Wayland will happen for Budgie and Solus DE’s and there is no clean divorce from the gnome base or gtk. there has to be a middle ground here. gnome and gtk things superior to kde imo. That is the messiest part.

His QT explanation (C+) is interesting and I wonder how he feels now.

On the other hand Josh’s masterwork (Ikey’s creation), Budgie, is on fire in the Linux world. It’s the best DE (it has a niche like any other de) and people are seeing it. Solus’s future is bright

. – Strobl is a forward-thinker and always has been. The merging with Serpent underneath will rock the whole boat, good or bad. Exciting times if you like to see the dice roll. No guts, no glory.

Circling back around to your lament about funding. You are right. Also the legion of loyalists that maintain Solus/Budgie/rest of solus DEs all have 9-to-5’s and a life. They go above and beyond. And as a user I could (barely) give more, you are absolutely correct. Probably time for me and people like me to put their money where their mouth is. I will always ride the Budgie brand.

josh has published another blog post with lots of interesting budgie wayland information

With this pace of development, Budgie will entirely GNOME free by 2040! thank god, I Say.

Also a lot of promising news about Wayland, hopefully the next time GNOME team trying to make a push to remove X11 from GNOME (not-budgie) implementations, Joshua Strobl would not be a party pooper and stop any progression efforts.
