When updating AUR packages to be updated, the required debugedit package is missing

When I tried to update Google Chrome, Vivaldi Snapshot, etc. today, the installation was interrupted due to the missing debugedit package mentioned in the topic title. I’m not interested in the solution, because @dalto described this in a closed topic, but rather the cause of the problem.

It is a bit hard to find out which closed topic you mean, but if you mean this topic as far as I can see there are some explanations given there. BTW I update Vivaldi-snapshot a lot and I never get this problem (maybe because I edited the makepkg.conf file :man_shrugging:)

Do you have debugedit installed?

pacman -Qi debugedit

Can you share the full verbatim error message you are receiving in context?

Unable to update AUR package due to missing required debugedit.

Update The base-devel package was missing, I installed it, and the packages were updated. Why was the base-devel package removed? I’m sure I didn’t remove it myself.

So far the AUR helper has not complained about the lack of debugedit.

Have you overwritten lately your /etc/makepkg.conf with /etc/makepkg.conf.pacnew ?

No.

I see
