What is the current status of UMU-Launcher and why was it installed on Steam?

Hi friends.

Does anyone know what the status of UMU-Launcher is? I read on reddit that it is used through Lutris and that it works well.

It’s not a standalone launcher, why are you supposed to need Lutris to use it? I still didn’t understand this part.

Anyway, I have read that wine-ge will be abandoned to be replaced by GE-Proton (Latest), which is supposedly UMU-Launcher.

I do not understand any of this. But this appeared on my Steam automatically, when I installed Lutris, since I only installed GE-Proton9-10:

So does anyone know if it’s a standalone launcher or something?

Thanks in advance.

Essentially its own system for launching games via the proton layer. I can’t really explain it well, but the readme on the github will explain what it does.

Thank you friend. Apparently you still need to launch it through Lutris, but I think it can be used on all launchers or something like that, like Heroic Launcher and others.

Everyone can use + contribute to the same protonfixes, no more managing individual install scripts per launcher
Everyone can run their games through Proton just like a native Steam game
No Steam or Steam binaries required
A unified online database of game fixes (protonfixes)
