What, no clowns? Where is keybreak when he is needed?

Clowns aren’t special to EOS. Clowns are the most common folk there are. They are literally everywhere you look.

The main thing to me is a more friendly forum. To me, the arch forum gets you one of two things…RTFM, or a cut and dry answer and nothing more. To be fair I am not bashing it as that’s all that is needed, but I like the light heartedness of the EOS forums so much more, and there are fun topics outside of “my OS broke” topics. Also, while the EOS wiki isn’t as extensive as the arch one, it is easier to follow on the topics it does contain.

Endeavour is as close to Arch as you can get, however the Endeavour Forum is a much more friendly and helpful place,
Endeavour users will never tell you to RTFM,…Nice one Endeavour,…Great stuff.

Unless it’s something like

how do I download files in the browser?

lol

The Arch Wiki is a fantastic reference manual, but it’s not a howto guide in most cases (there are some decent step by step howtos buried in it, but I think they got rid of a lot of the dedicated howto pages). The EOS Discover guide is a lot better at the “howto” stuff.

The Arch guys sometimes remind me of mistreated tech support people living the dream of what they wish they could do when people open cases. I have some personal experience with that, so I can’t even knock them too much for it, but I wish they’d remember back when they were end users and needed help sometimes. And despite the attitude some of them show (and it is only SOME of them) I do think they still intend to help, and their Wiki, which they work very hard on, is their attempt to do so.

This is the point.

I’ve been there…(such situation I mean. I am not referring to any specific forum or distro) I would like to invite you all to read this conversation I had on another forum! It is not a joke as the thread title says… I just copied and pasted with minor edits.
I hope you all enjoy the conversation! A little joke on a regular day - #2231 by limotux

Their Reddit is a little better. A very little.

I mean I have nothing against the way arch does things, just I prefer the personal touch I feel like we have here. My order of looking for help for me personally is I am going to look at discover first and see if there is an answer to my problem/question first, then if not I will search the forums here for something similar to my situation, then I will look at the arch wiki, if it is a particular program I will look at that programs git for any thing similar to my problem, then search the arch forums (I have never asked anything on there because I have never needed to) and then if I didn’t find the answer I am going to come back here and ask the question. That being said I usually find the answer before asking the question.

Yeah, I tend to prefer that too. I know the Arch guys have worked hard on their documentation and are justifiably proud of it, but some people need more guidance than just a written reference document. Some people need written howtos, some people need instructional videos to follow, and some people just want someone else to confirm that yes, they really did it right. And while I might tease a little, ultimately I’m not going to begrudge anyone the method that suits them best for learning.

And some people just like the personal exchange and that there is not only a technical document waiting for them but a person who assures them: Don’t worry, I’m trying to help you.

And that’s exactly what they find here.
