Stop using Brave Browser
Seriously.
Firefox, mostly, but I do keep Edge around as a backup if a site doesn’t play well with Firefox.
Technically you can use any VPN you wish (or no VPN at all) with the Mullvad browser. See here, from the Mullvad Browser FAQ:
Do I have to be a Mullvad VPN user to run the Mullvad Browser? #
No, you don’t have to be a Mullvad VPN user to run the Mullvad Browser. But we highly recommend that you use a trustworthy VPN in combination with the browser.
Can I use the Mullvad Browser without a VPN? #
Yes, but if you don’t use a trustworthy VPN in combination with the Mullvad Browser your IP address won’t be masked. To avoid data collectors and mass monitors to identify you thanks to your IP address (and hide your traffic from your ISP) – use a trustworthy VPN together with the Mullvad Browser.
The rest of the FAQ is fairly informative if you want to get a sense of what the browser has to offer.
In general, compared to Librewolf I would say Librewolf will have better usability and access to features, where Mullvad has eliminated some of that in favor of stricter privacy-protection defaults. See here, for example:
Why is the built-in password manager disabled? #
Use a external password manager, it’s more secure.
Why is the time wrong? #
The time zone is spoofed, to combat fingerprinting.
What’s this weird spacing around the websites? #
It’s called letterboxing, a function to combat fingerprinting (using your browser window size to identify you together with other measures).
How do I stay logged into specific websites between sessions? #
It’s not possible. It’s an action to combat tracking.
Is the browser only available in English? #
For now, it’s only available in English.
Will you support Firefox Sync? #
No.
A lot of these intentionally disabled features are available (or can be made available) in Librewolf. Librewolf also does not use letterboxing or time zone spoofing by default.
Thanks, I probably should have just looked into it myself, but there has been a lot I’ve wanted to look into lately. It gets to be a bit much at times, and I fall into lazy habits. Much appreciated.

It isn’t protecting your privacy
Seriously.
Same BS as duckduckgo
Willl take a look thanks
Same BS as duckduckgo
Could you elaborate this further (and maybe even suggest an alternative)?
The privacy-focused DuckDuckGo browser purposely allows Microsoft trackers on third-party sites due to an agreement in their syndicated search content contract between the two companies.
Aaaa, you were talking about the DDG Browser, not the search engine per se. Question here is: Was this made transparent for the end user? Was there an “opt out”? Nevertheless, this IS shady. Any alternative search engines suggestions?
Yes sorry for the confusion but yes the browser. The search engine for DDG search engine? Hate to bust your bubble there too.
Due to a confidential agreement, the DuckDuckGo browser does not block all Microsoft trackers.
Unfortunately privacy is an illusion in this world. I use Firefox but have no real alternative to for search. I just turn off everything on my Google account for privacy permissions including YouTube history and say that is about as good as it is going to get.
I have slowly moving email, contact and calendar to protonmail but honestly full de-google is impossible goal for me to attain. I would even consider an iPhone until what I have seen with family members that have an iPhone and how Apple is targeting ads based on their text messages. Which is why I use Signal for most messaging.
Trying not to be tracked and targeted is like building sand castles in low tide
The link is again about the browser? Still my question stays the same: Good alternative search engine?
Regarding degoogling: Well, first thing would be “no google account”. I would not recommend any service located in Switzerland, they share data with part of fice eyes - at least they ditched USA some time ago, but Canada is still on their list. mailbox.org or posteo seem the only valid options here. And that’s just the beginning…
I am not worried about 5 eyes. If they want to check in on my discussions how my dog is incontinent that is fine. I don’t want to have puppy pads showing up on every web page I visit.
Minimize exposure is the goal. To be a complete ghost you need to get rid of your phone, debt/credit cards and never get on the Internet.

Good alternative ? None.
Many rely more or less on Bing, two are proxies, Startpage which has been bought by an Ads/medias company (but they support the EFF) and Searx which instances run on servers manage by individuals.
Switzerland, like many other countries are not part of the 5, 9 or 14 eyes, if their security/intelligence service need some information, they will get it like in any country.
There is a difference between sharing data willingly with others and prohibition of such sharing. I would rather trust an EU based service than a non EU based one.
Searx or searxng are alternative search engines. Completely worth the overhead for me at least.
Hello friend.
I use Firefox, Librewolf and Tor.
All 3 are Firefox based, what can I say, I love Firefox.
By the way, Firefox worked poorly for years on Windows 10 due to a “mistake” made by Microsoft developers, they did something that made Firefox work slower than other browsers.
Finally, when they released Windows 11, the Windows 10 development team found the “bug” that caused it to run slower than other browsers and consume more memory, apparently it was a “mistake” made by one of the Windows 10 developers .
Now there are people reporting some problems with Firefox on Windows 11, so we will have to wait for Windows 12 to be released to find the new “bug” on Windows 11.
By the way, this never happened in Linux, and Firefox was always the fastest and the one that consumed the least memory.
But you know what? That someone needs to make “mistakes” to make Firefox slower just shows how good Firefox is.
Still, all the time I spent on Windows 10, I always used Firefox. Thank God I will never go back to Windows again.
In Linux all 3 work perfectly. If I had to choose one, I would choose Librewolf.
PS: I love Firefox a lot, so maybe my opinion is not very objective.
Firefox Firefox Firefox …
LibreWolf as daily driver and Chromium in case something doesn’t work as expected on LibreWolf.
That’s a pretty awful article. It makes some valid points about not using Brave (and some utterly ridiculous ones), but then recommends proprietary browser Vivaldi as a privacy-focused alternative. This is a terrible advice and recommendation. There is no reason ever to use a proprietary browser. Doing so is dangerously foolish and irresponsible.

As much as I love this guy he tends to be very hypocrit from time to time.
