Written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The hit version from 1969 was sung by Peggy Lee and orchestrated by Randy Newman.

In 2004 Firewater released a modern take on the same song, which is also very good.

I have a theory of time and relativity. You know, some folks grow up and are pretty wild. But when they have kids, they try to bring them up to be better - and institutions, media and TV are all expected to maintain minimum standards.

So we all usually think that our parents, and our grandparents, are more polite than we are. The truth is that younger people get old, so we get confused. Music we listened to when we were young isn’t old music, it’s cool and risky and amazing
 whoops. Wrong.

Now listen to this.
