I know @ricklinux would’ve said you should’ve installed Gnome instead, (kidding of course! ) but I’m happy to see you got it all working! I switched from ext4 to btrfs earlier this year and I just found it easier for myself to just do a fresh re-install like you did. I didn’t come across the same errors you did, but it’s great to see the community helping out as always! Since switching to btrfs, I’ve enjoyed it so far and am happy I made the switch. Hope you enjoy your new setup even more, happy computing!
Well, I like Gnome… worked with it for some time… but KDE suited me more.
It was @dalto 's advice. According to him it would need much work if I just converted the filesystem.
Some times I am so unlucky! I remember one day at work, I was emailing lots of people with lots of files (spreadsheets). One subject -which was actually top urgent and critical “refused” to take the spread sheet as an attachment (not a big file, no macros, just a simple small spreadsheet, I worked it over again to a new file, as .xls, as ,xlsx,…) it simply refused. Next day it was simply attached and sent (the same file) though I sent before and after it refused many!
Same here (for a couple of hours now and just 2 text files with unique words) to test the problem that happened with me before where Baloo didn’t play well with BTRFS - There are many posts by me about lots of problems before that.
I will keep restarting, updating every short while to test.
Probably tomorrow I will download/copy my data.
I agree with you and have to say again… since I started Linux in 2000 I never came across such friendly and helpful community. I see it is the community who is really adding value to EndeavourOS, though EOS by itself is a wonderful distro. “Another” distro is almost similar to EOS (though EOS is better) but I quit this “other” distro because of the community!
And I am here to stay! (after distro hopping for almost a year). Unless someone tells me I am causing them a lot of headache and I should shut up or I should go to hell! I won’t though because I am enjoying the EOS and the community.
Here, it is amazing really.
(Sorry for the long post, but here I like to think aloud with my friends)
No worries, I was only making a small joke, any DE you use is fine, there’s really no right or wrong, it’s all about your own preferences and what works best for your own workflow.
You can get the Arch experience in more ways that I can count across various scripts, installers, or other Arch-based distros, but I have to agree with you. If EndeavourOS didn’t have this forum/community behind it, it would not feel the same at all.
The easy Arch install and set up provided by EndeavourOS gets your foot in the door, but I think the community is what helps to make you want to stick around. Other communities are great too (PopOS, Solus, openSUSE, etc.) but I’ve learned more and also been more helpful here than I have anywhere else so for that reason I am very grateful to be a part of this community.
I started with SUSE in 2000, then openSuse… it was ok till… they had some agreement with M$ and things changed since then… an I quit it!
Same here… though I count myself a liability not an asset (But any way I am part of the community)
And I learnt a lot here as well… and still learning.
I really enjoy.
@limotux
I have been using KDE for quite some time and installed it with btrfs once it was implemented in the Calamares installer on EOS. It’s been great and the updates just keep coming. It’s gotten better and better. I don’t need to touch it. I just use it.
So, you are on KDE now not Gnome as @Scotty_Trees said!
Yes… I tried many DE, LXQT, Gnome, LXDE… but I see KDE is the most feature rich.
Just to share my experience and to learn more I created a thread about my experience with BTRFS.
Just in case anyone is interested.
Why don’t you just use it for a length of time first. Usually you need to spend months to get to know your way around and really understand btrfs and some of its capabilities. Just a suggestion.
This is what I am going to do! I finally had my dream of running on BTRFS and having earlier snapshots to boot to, just in case I mess things up.
Sure, I am absolutely new to Arch/Arch based distros. I count myself only 3 months old on Arch (about 2 months on “another” arch based distro + less than a month on EndeavourOS, and less than 48 hrs on BTRFS)
I am really enjoying the feeling that no matter what I will have a working distro (earlier snapshots). I am sure it will not break because of an update (happened with me once with another Arch based distro) but, just in case while I am learning I may break it!
Well, let me be honest and clear, I would not call it a suggestion as it comes from someone more experienced than me, so I do not call it a suggestion, I call it a “recommendation”, I don’t really mind getting recommendations or even instructions from more experienced users. Especially I am only less than 3 months old!
Sorry for the late reply! I was busy tweaking, installing, configuring… you know.
