Sometimes after booting into the OS and logging in, the Plasma loading screen comes up but it stays there for about a minute without starting the desktop. Switching to ttys doesn’t work well at this point, they are not very resposive.
Eventually the loading screen goes away and i get a black background without the Plasma panel at the bottom and my cursor. Applications work and it even restored the apps which were open in the previous session, but the desktop environment itself wasn’t there.
After saving the logs I tried to reboot my pc (using sudo reboot now) which didn’t work. So I had to reboot using REISUB.
There were 2 things which seemed relevant when looking in journalctl logs:
- There was a kernel null pointer dereference at the beginning (regarding btusb).
- Powerdevil couldn’t start several times due to a timeout.
I am unsure whether these 2 are related and I might have missed something. To reiterate, this seemingly happens at random so I don’t really know how to reproduce it.
