Waybar layer: no difference with top or bottom?

According to https://github.com/Alexays/Waybar/wiki/Configuration:

Decide if the bar is displayed in front (top ) of the windows or behind (bottom ) them.

I see no difference in setting the layer to top or bottom. What are these settings supposed to do?

(I’m new to Sway and haven’t used i3 or any tiling WM before!)

It’s when you are using something like bemenu and you want it to appear on top of waybar.
