After 25 or so years of NOT using linux, I experienced laptop failure. Found anoter in a drawer and started to think how to get a legal key to Windows 10. And suddenly I remebered as back then I used to use Slack It was a pain in the a.. in 90ties. But linux was something different in the past. Difficult, complex, not ment for noobs and desktop users. Then came Mandriva, then Mint and everything started to work properly, i.e. network or usb keyboards. But, leave that…
So now I figured out that i will install Linux. Started with OpenSuse which I knew a little from the past and it was ok, but reading about distros made me want to hop all the time. In a week I tried Mint, Tumbleweed, Leap, Fedora, Tumbleweed once again and wanted to install Debian but Arch was the holly grail for me.. But forgot nearly everything so i consider myself a noob now. But remembering using keyboard only, commands and so made me feel like a hacker again And by an accident I found out that there is something like EnOS. Some guys on the net said that arch-based distros doesn’t make any sense, but I wanted to feel it beeing scared of pure Arch instalation. So, that is how EonOS found me. Everything was simple, system is minimal yet preety and responsive even on my old computer. With qutebrowser, ncspot and some others simple tools now I have everything I need.
And this feeling that I can learn something again being 47
So, welcome here. I would like to stick to EnOS for a while because that feeling, I can’t really describe, feeling of hmmm …using computer in the right way and with a cool workflow, makes me happy.
Welcome! Ah the 90’s.. Mandrake was incredible! I still miss it!
Arch-based distros make perfect sense.. - Getting older, - not as much time to fix and tinker. Sometimes you need those rough edges smoothened out, - EOS does that for you, perfectly! Absolutely stopped hopping once I found this wonderful distro! Enjoy the journey!
So you tried Mint and it just wasn’t the right flavor. Then you tripped over a Tumbleweed took a Leap and got Fedora’d looking for the Holy Grail. After you found the sweet spot in the purple zone with EOS!
