VRR / Adaptive Sync - Which desktop environment works best with AMD FreeSync?

Since the beginning of my Linux journey in the mid of 2023 I want to use VRR / Adaptive Sync in Linux. I switched from Nvidia to AMD RX 7800 XT for a better compatibility and I’m using a DELL monitor that supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

I know that VRR / Adaptive Sync only works on Wayland. So I used Wayland in all my distributions. Also I found out that actually KDE Plasma and GNOME are supporting VRR / Adaptive Sync.

In KDE Plasma I always got flickering when switching back from fullscreen (like gaming or watching a video on YouTube) to the Desktop. Switching the Hz to another frequency and back solved the issue after that, but this could only be a workaround. There is already an issue on Gitlab but none of the workarounds given worked for me.

So I enabled experimental VRR setting in GNOME and it looks like there aren’t any issues yet. I’m able to play games and videos in fullscreen without issues.

Are you aware of any other desktop environments that support VRR / Adaptive Sync?

Or maybe you have an idea how to fix my issues in KDE Plasma? Are you using VRR / Adaptive Sync on AMD graphics card?
