VMware Workstation Shifting From Proprietary Code To Using Upstream KVM

Really curious how this will shake out. I’ve always like VMware’s GUI over virt-manager, especially the Workstation version.

the ‘forced backdoor’ talk was an eye-opener but I understood the context–that’s the only way to enable it but they provide a choice and set a default.
I don’t know enough about any party here [bare metal for life here] to know the endgame but I am a curious bugger: they are doing this simply for increased Linux support? Phoronix article written a little tight.

VMware was my 1st go to many years back, but QEMU/KVM had my interest and is serving me well for some years now.
I look forward to the changes VMware is making and can’t wait for a try.
