Vivaldi defaults back to X11 after latest update

Updated vivaldi on 2026-02-14, rebooted this morning. When I ran some of my Vivaldi apps, I was greeted with strangeness in the window management. It turns out that my window rules (which use Wayland class name) weren’t working because all of my Vivaldi windows were defaulting to Xwayland.

Now, I modified the vivaldi .desktop file to force the use of Wayland; the installed .desktop file was not updated as part of the vivaldi update, so this seems to be an internal change.

Has anyone else ran into this? For other Chromium-based browser user, what about your experience?

Thanks for that. I could not for the life of me remember how to access these settings. Still wonder what changed that I’m now required to do this.
