I’ve been having an issue recently where videos do not seem to load. I will hit play and it will just spin and spin, but the video never plays. Attempting to close the tab or browser causes a total freeze of firefox (uninteractable, eventually greys out the window). Originally this was just an issue with youtube, and it did go away, but now It’s happening with reddit’s videos as well. Any ideas?
Try temporarily disabling any Firefox Addons you have, and see if the issue persists. If the issue is gone, you might then try to pin-point which specific addon is causing the issue, and address it there.
I have gotten around to testing this and I have confirmed it is not caused by any extensions. The issue continues after disabling all of them.
Try a different Firefox profile by creating a new one here: about:profiles
Maybe something in your Firefox settings is causing it.
If it is a Firefox settings issue, and you use Firefox Sync, delete your or old profile and sync the new one or delete your ~.mozilla/
folder and start from scratch.
If it doesn’t work, try creating a different user login for your system and test it there. This should have no such issues. If it does, then it is likely your video card/onboard drivers.
I’ve figured it out but first here is a bit of clarification: The issue is not browser specific, but only seems to effect browsers. Both Firefox and Vivaldi have this issue and experience it on various platforms from twitter to youtube to reddit. This issue does not effect playback of videos in other applications such as MPV.
This is a weird one. The static generated by standing up from my chair is traveling up my headphone cord and into my pc. This is causing my monitor to briefly turn off and seems to correspond to video playback no longer working. I should probably find a way to mitigate that so i don’t damage my hardware lol. It would be interesting to know though why that causes this behavior.
Note: This issue will affect BOTH browsers simultaneously even if i only have for instance firefox open at the time of the static discharge. Additionally this does not happen if the static discharge occurs with neither browser open. Once again, a shutdown of the application does not fix it and a reboot is required.
Wait… WHAT?!
You need to AI search that one. That sounds ridiculously strange. That should only be happening for wireless devices or faulty devices.
And it should only happen for wireless devices when the distance has significantly changed or there is something blocking the signals.
seems like others online have encountered this as well. Here is a video of someone with the same issue (shown at 30 seconds in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-V_Z3bD_PA. I may try to get a different cable for my headphones with better shielding or perhaps just get a humidifier for my office.
Wow
That’s one I hadn’t heard of
In case your headphones are connected via 3.5mm AUX… I think one of these may prevent this.
what happens when you turn of hardware acceleration in Firefox?
i actually have one of those in my car. Not a bad idea i think ill give it a try. My headphone connection actually goes 3.5mm>usb amplifier>computer so its even more odd. I guess my amp doesn’t have any grounding either.
That’s another point of possible failure, indeed.
