Video on nba.com

I see. So, one of those “if ever” websites I mentioned above.

I guess there is nothing you can do about that then. :person_shrugging:

What I found as well. I wouldn’t touch this website with a ten foot pole knowing this.

Unfortunately it seems this doesn’t change anything. They have similar services offered on Youtube. Or you have to use a VM.

And these people wonder why torrents and unofficial streaming sites exist. Because they try to force you to use apps, services, and devices you may not want to use, giving up your autonomy and privacy.

The videos on the NBA website do not require a subscription.

I just tried on my iPad. All videos play fine on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.

Definitely seems to be an NBA/Linux issue.

Yer cool, just came across it when looking at the page and thought it might be it. But since it works on other devices without subscription would put it down to linux. Wondering if it could be “tricked” if running waydroid or even just use scrcpy if OP has an android and cast the screen on the monitor?

@Ev4ld, yeah, seems like Linux in general is not supported by the NBA. I just texted several friends and asked them to try videos on nba.com.

  • Windows 11: Firefox and Vivaldi work fine.
  • Windows 10: Firefox and Microsoft Edge work fine
  • MacOS: Chrome and Safari work fine.
  • My own iPad: Firefox, Chrome, Safari all work fine.

Also not working on Debian Firefox.

I’m pretty sure that no Linux distro will work. But if anyone using another distro has luck, post here. I’d be curious to see if any Linux distro works.

EDIT:

I just tried Firefox in my Pop! OS Alpha 2 VM. Same thing, DRM error.

I kind of knew that from experience, just was hoping maybe someone has manufactured a software solution, like some kind of container for browser

The thing I hate is that it supports playing the ads first before kicking you out, real kick in the teeth
