Video hardware acceleration missing | Cinnamon |

Hi there,

I’m a new user to Endeavour OS and my first taste of an Arch based system.
It has been a fun distro to get familiar with Arch but not without it’s learning curve I’m a newbie to linux but enjoying the discovery all the same.
My problem : - a video driver problem has occurred when booting into Endeavour, initially it was random now it’s continuous.
I have another Arch based system on the 2nd partion of the drive, Garuda , which has turned out to be very helpful .

This is in error mode when booting into EOS
[paul@endeavour ~]$ inxi -G
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] driver: nvidia v: 455.45.01
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.10 driver: modesetting,vesa
unloaded: fbdev resolution: 1024x768~76Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.3.2

This is what should look like.
[paul@endeavour ~]$ inxi -b
System: Host: endeavour Kernel: 5.10.4-arch2-1 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.8.5 Distro: EndeavourOS
Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: MAXIMUS IX HERO v: Rev 1.xx serial:
UEFI: American Megatrends v: 1301 date: 03/14/2018
CPU: Info: Quad Core Intel Core i7-7700K [MT MCP] speed: 800 MHz min/max: 800/4500 MHz
Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] driver: nvidia v: 455.45.01
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.10 driver: nvidia unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa resolution:
1: 1920x1080~60Hz
2: 1920x1080~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 455.45.01

It appears to be loading ‘modesetting vesa’ driver instead of the nvidia driver.
There are no problems booting into Garuda, which is a similarly Arch based OS so it appears not to be a hardware problem.
I would appreciate any advice from the learn’ed forum members.
Thank you very much.

Hello @pjod
This seems to be happening with Nvidia on Cinnamon. It’s not a recent phenomenon as i have one system that it happened a few months ago and i didn’t get round to looking at it until recently. This is what we came up with.

Edit: Thanks to @joekamprad

Hey, that worked a treat!
Thanks a lot.

I wouldn’t have bothered anyone but I didn’t know where I should be looking.
Next time I’ll look through the wiki first.
Thanks again.
