Using Linux to update Firmware

I do really like EOS for the exact reason @pebcak states, but can be difficult for people who move here from a different distro that tries to include everything under the sun.

I’ve never found that fwupd was installed/enabled by default. But if/when a motherboard is supported, it’s stupid simple to use and by far the most convenient method I’ve found to update BIOS.

However, there can often be a catch. A quick example. The Dell Wyse 5070 is supported by fwupd, however there is a bug (it’s well documented and exists for other motherboards as well) whereby a display MUST be connected directly to the 5070 for the update to execute correctly. You cannot execute via ssh, for example. They’ve even attempted a software fix that emulates a physical display connection and it still fails. I just experienced this last week end.
