Usb hdd not recognized by my system

I know there is a thread in here for this exact same issue, but it was posted a year ago. Didn’t want to necro the thread. And was never resolved.

Anyway, my HDD USB3 caddy won’t work with my system. it USED to, but no longer. I never changed anything software wise. Unless an update wiped it out.

I tried different USB ports 2 and 3. I tried it on my Dad’s system (running Mint) and worked fine.

lsusb shows:

The HDD dock I’m currently using:

I tried several other external docks as well.

Is this trouble with the firewall again? (as with my printer issue)

I don’t think it would be a firewall issue unless it was detected and you were unable to access the drive. Have you run lsusb first and then again after plugging in the drive to see if the list shows another entry? I would also do this with dmesg and see if you can identify the problem or the device?

Edit: Also have you rebooted since updating or since the problem started?

I tried running lsusb several times, always the same. Before or after I connected it.

You know what? I didn’t think I rebooted since the latest update (last night). I’m going to try that…

Okay i think it is this device. So unplug it and see if this disappears from the list when you run lsusb with it unplugged.

Edit: So it looks like it’s recognized but no driver is loading.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

A restart brought it back to life…

When in doubt, restart your system!!

So apparently an update knocked it out. Thanks for mentioning that…

It’s known to work and not to work depending on what hardware it’s connected to also.
