USB fingerprint reader

(On Linux)

Any USB fingerprint reader working to allow biometric authentication via WebAuthn or Auth0?

Am thinking for passkey use.

(some recent versions of Linux have built-in support for FIDO U2F security keys ?)

I use YubiKey 5C and it works great. I specifically use it with Bitwarden and Bitwarden only.

My concern with the regular Yubikey is that it is capacitive sensor that can be used by anyone with possession of it.

A true fingerprint reader that will work on a Linux desktop computer is my quest.

Oh, I see what you’re saying.

Well, despite the capacitive sensor, it asks you for a pin. I actually prefer this over an actual fingerprint because fingerprints can be exploited.

and if you forget your pin, I could text it to you.

…have not noticed frequent mentions of fingerprint reader exploitation.

Perhaps I am on the wrong hunt – facial recognition with a camera ?

I do like my iPhone recognizing me and the absence of a further typing requirement.

Not frequent, but definitely possible and has been done. It really depends on what your goals are and what you’re protecting. Only you can be the judge of that.
