So is there a way to upgrade to new version without downloading the new .iso?
pacman -Syyu doesnt seem to get you the new version.

This command should update all your Endeavour and Arch packages (not AUR). What makes you think that you do not have the latest version of all your installed packages?

The new version is just an ISO. There is no special thing you need to get the new version. You always have the latest EOS if you are updating. EOS is a rolling distro, there is no major version to upgrade to.
You are on a ârolling distributionâ. No need for downloading a new .iso.
Except for reinstallationsâŚ

So its not mentioning Ganymede. Shouldnât it or am I wrong?
No, it shouldnât mention it. This is because EOS is rolling. The names are just for the ISOs.
That is the great thing about a rolling distro. You never need to do a âmajorâ upgrade or reinstall from the ISO to get the new version. You always have the new version as long as you are doing normal updates.
Thx for the info. ![]()
Welcome, @mackd08 - nice to see youâre trying out EOS.
Itâs one of the questions I had as well when I first started using a rolling release.
It took me some time to realize you only need the ISO once: when you first install the OS. If you keep updating from that point on, youâll always be âup to dateâ.
Until, of course, you break your system beyond repair and need to begin from scratch again.
BTW: breaking things is the best way to learn ![]()
-y, --refresh
Download a fresh copy of the master package databases (repo.db) from the server(s) defined in
pacman.conf(5). This should typically be used each time you use --sysupgrade or -u.
Passing two --refresh or -y flags will force a refresh of all package databases, even if they appear to be up-to-date.
Normally you would need to pass -y (once) for refreshing the package database.
Passing -yy is not needed if you donât experience any particular issue with the updates. It will generate unnecessary traffic on the servers.
To add, - just because itâs a rolling release doesnât mean you canât download the ISO and put it on a recovery USB stick. Generally I keep the latest version of the ISO on a USB stick so I can boot from it in the unlikely event that I need to do a recovery or chroot.
Welcome to the EndeavourOS forum.
I hope you enjoy your time here.
The only indication that you might see is the new Ganymede wallpaper instead of the old Mercury wallpaper. If you have a personal wallpaper displayed, you might still see that wallpaper.
If you had the Mercury wallpaper, then you would have the changing of the guard to the Ganymede wallpaper.
