A little history / trivia on the computer’s name HAL 9000.

The producers of "2001: A Space Odyssey " wanted to have IBM in the name as IBM was a big name in computers (especially main frame) at the time.
The IBM execs decided they did not want their Logo associated with a computer AI that run amok. So this is what the producers / writers did.
H = one letter before I in the English alphabet
A = one letter before B in the English alphabet
L = one letter before M in the English alphabet
