Have you tried to install Opera before?
The error message “/usr/bin/opera exists in filesystem” and the many similar lines for other files indicate that the yay package manager is trying to place new Opera files in directories where files with the same names already exist.

You can force the installation with:

yay -S opera --overwrite “*”

But anyways this would almost certainly work if we assume all those files should just be purged/overwritten;

I also agree with this sentiment.
In case it needs repeating - if you loved opera in the past then use vivaldi.
The current app is some mutant created after opera was bought by a chinese investment group/consortium back in 2016.

It would be better if you marked the actual post that provided the solution instead of your own post following those instructions.

I dont know why this is also super common here.
But it doesnt do any future browsers any favors as the real solution then is not highlighted.


A grand total of 2 posts were comprised solely of opining about the opera browser and nothing else.
Which was neither the majority nor the final messages when this mod note was posted.
I also dont think that ‘dont give your opinion on the software someone is trying to use’ should be a hard and fast rule either - of course its an extreme, but what if someone is trying to install something known to be malicious, for example?

Using an extreme is a common rhetorical tool.
The point was that discussion of the software in question is not necessarily off-topic.
Or should we never tell people to avoid grub-customizer even though we know it breaks things?
To the extent that you feel otherwise then its an honest question.

Maybe some of these things would better fit something like a PM, but some people take that offensively, and your final statement seems to have been intended as a sort of insult or appeal to authority or both .. so here we are, even further off topic.
