Unable to install Battle net

I have steam working and was able to get some other games working through Lutris. Battle net seems impossible. So far I have tried the following:

Wine
Lutris
Bottles
Steam (add non-steam game)

None have been successful. Wine got the furthest reaching the login portion of the installation, but it would crash at that point. Steam almost gets there but also crashes. Lutris just keeps telling me Battlenet is not installed in Lutris (even though I can see all the games through the sources. Bottles just does not even work.

What am I doing wrong or missing here?

I am able to use it via Steam as a non-steam game. Compatibility set to “Proton Experimental”.

Remember to add the Battle.net exe as a “new” game to Steam as well, after installing. Same compatibility mode as for the installer.

You can hide the Battle.net setup game then (do not delete it though). When starting up battle net, it takes a while for the login button to appear, but it will eventually work.

Battle.net is working like a charm in latest Lutris! You just have to do the following: After installing Lutris start it and let some things be downloaded. Then don’t install WineGE manually!

Open settings and switch to “Updates”. Here you should find the possibility to search / download WineGE. Click the button and WineGE will be downloaded. Also, GE-Proton is downloaded.

If both were downloaded, switch to “Starter” and search for wine. Open the Wine-settings.

At the top, switch Wine-Version to “GE-Proton (Latest)”.

Now install Battle.net through Lutris. Ignore the error message that pops up and wait till installation is finished. Start Battle.net and log in. It should work now. Maybe an update is offered in Battle.net, but it should also work without an update.

For me, Battle.net is working now in Lutris, and I’m able to play my games in there. Fingers crossed that it works for you, too.

I have battle.net and SC2 running though steam, and it worked (with some modification for my friend on Mint too). We followed this post and the linked guide. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/w2dx0u/how_do_you_have_a_single_battlenet_install_via/

Careful, there are a few typos and skipped steps from page to the other so it takes some interpretation and careful reading of commands. No I don’t remember what exactly the errors are.

I have no option of installing Battle.net in Lutris. I dont know wlhere this went wrong, but I see it under “Sources” which I enabled. However when clicking in on the side bar, I am met with a message stating Battlenet is not installed in Lutris.

This is what I am met with at step 1, installing Battle net

I am now wondering if something else is broken since I tried to install this many different ways, so there might be lingering files stopping each other?

Changed proton settings a few times and was able to search for battlenet in the games and it started. installation said it failed but it seems to be working now… downloading games to see if they work now.

Error message is normal, I think. But it should work!

Try a different proton when running the bnet-setup file. I have Bnet and SC2 working using proton 8, but I just tried it and the installer appears not to work with 8 (similar error), but seems to in 9 (I did not finish running it but I got a working login prompt).
