Tty Did you ever wonder why? History buffs welcome

Have you ever brought up a Console window and wondered what the tty meant?
Press Ctrl-Alt-F3 and get: (by the way, press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get back here)

You just brought up a Console WIndow, different from a Terminal widow like Nautilus or Thunar.

Here is a picture that is very close to the first terminal I used in the early seventies on UNIX. The one I used did not have the tape reader on the left side, just a blank panel like the right side. Otherwise very close.

That thing ran at 300 Baud and I could almost type faster than the teletype printed out.
Aw, those were the bad old days.

Really those bad old days in the seventies…

Today I have about one million times faster net connection than 300 bits/sec… :astonished:

Probably it is on fiber. In the area where I live fibers are common. Wired it is anyway.
