On 15 July 2019, we started this amazing journey, and you all came along with us on this thrilling ride.
Out of the ashes of Antergos, we started this journey from scratch with no experience or significant coding skills. EndeavourOS went further than we dreamt of, and we are eternally grateful for your enthusiastic support.
As you may guess from the tone of this post, the smell of change is in the air…Yes, we are on the verge of announcing a new road we are going into and we hope you will join us on our new adventure.
We are proud to present to you the upcoming code name for our next release: Happy Husky!
Not only will we be abandoning the space names, but The Happy Husky will be the first fixed release we will present.
We are abandoning the rolling release model for an exciting fixed release schedule with a brand-new GUI app store based on Snapd for easier access and a held-back Arch repo for extra safety.
Each DE will get a separate ISO, and switching DEs on a running system won’t be an option from then on. Also, for running systems, so you have to choose carefully.
Once Happy Husky is released, installing from the AUR will be impossible for the user due to a new, closed-source blocking script for your protection. A new feature @joekamprad and @manuel worked hard on these past months.
Also, thanks to @dalto’s hard work, convenient login with your existing Google, Facebook, or X account will be one of the options. This feature will be the sole login option towards the end of 2025. This will also be the case for the forum, of course, just to be universal on all fronts.
We are hoping to present Happy Husky towards the end of May, and running systems will be automatically updated to the new fixed release model.
In case you don’t have a Facebook, Google or X account, we urge you to create one, otherwise, you will miss out on the fun possibilities Happy Husky is going to provide you.
“Canonical announced today it has joined forces with Endeavour OS for a Husky Dog immutable version with mandatory Snaps instead of Flatpak, enabled telemetry, and the legendary AUR by paid subscription but money orders were allowed. ‘It’s a win-win for all parties,’ Canonical spokesman Justin Mando said.”
The right step into future, I thought it would never come in my lifetime! Thanks for one place of normality in this chaotic times. Maybe I can be an early adopter!? Sorry for not download and installing now, but there are important things to, like planes to catch and bills to pay, but if this ongoing and last distro of all times reaches status `Endeavouring Eagle’, I’ll be yours. Promised. Maybe.
Stay huskied!
Manjaro has been trying to move in this direction for years — they’ll succeed. I believe it! And then, under their new leadership, BillBoy, they’ll take over the entire internet…
