Titan Nova ISO bails me out… big time.

Since it now has sway as an option, I thought I’d give archinstall a try on one of my daily drivers (an old Dell Optiplex 7010 with lots of accumulated scruff over the years).

After backing up everything I could think of, I took the plunge… and let archinstall erase my entire OS hard drive in order to replace it with a fresh sway/wayland environment.

Long story short: Despite numerous attempts to get things to work, after each install (applying various different choices for everything else besides sway), once I got things initially settled where it looked like a successful installation, then it wouldn’t let me re-boot up properly thereafter. [Black screens with cursor arrow, same under various TTYs choices, blah, blah.]

Very bummed. And frustrated.

But then it finally occurred to me that perhaps I could resurrect things by simply installing the latest EOS ISO. (duh!… as an EOS ISO dev tester, this should have been my first thought. :roll_eyes:)

So, burned the ISO to USB drive, ran calamares, selected i3wm, and then manually installed sway/wayland on top thereafter.

Sure, I still have a number of things to load up and configs to finalize as expected, but it’s clear everything is falling into place where I want it to be.

Silver lining: All those ISO tests conducted in VM boxes and on bare metal external HDD prepared me for a seamless re-installation of our outstanding EOS platform.

I’ve been trying to get Arch ISO to work and every time it say’s its corrupted. I’ve downloaded it numerous times and it just won’t work for me.

Unfortunately, I got quite a bit further than that. It would’ve saved me a lot of time and grief if my ISO files were simply corrupted. :wink:

I’m just not understanding why? Every time i try running an Arch ISO it say’s it’s corrupted. I’ve tried more than a dozen times with diffferent usb sticks and different downloads. I even tried an older ISO from the archive.

Are you trying to install with an Arch ISO on bare-metal, or a VM? If a VM, the one I downloaded yesterday works fine.

EDIT: I used this command to download the iso:

wget -c -v https://fastly.mirror.pkgbuild.com/iso/2026.09.01/archlinux-2026.09.01-x86_64.iso

I assume the checksums match, so it could be the method used for writing to the USB. I often recommend Ventoy as it means you can test multiple .ISOs without repeatedly erasing and rewriting to the flash. :wink:

My comment re: corrupted ISOs would have saved me time was a weak attempt at humor … if downloads were corrupted, I wouldn’t have wasted time installing the OS only to have it fail on me next time I rebooted.

Sorry for the touch of sarcasm.

[BTW, I had consistent success when installing arch via archinstall within VM boxes. That’s where I did weeks of testing. It was then on the actual hard drive where it kept choking.]

I have no issue with endeavourOS written to the same usb disks or any other distro. It’s just Arch ISO and this never used to be a problem but it is now.

Edit: I use popsicle. I would not use Ventoy.

I have been using GNOME Disks for writing single ISOs to USBs (SanDisk 62 GB & 128 GB devices). Just finished testing the latest Arch ISO - working as expected.

@ricklinux - do you have another USB stick to try? I’m just grasping at straws here…

This actually solved the same sort of issue for one of our members over on the Manjaro forum. Possibly worn or tarnished contacts. :wink:

Ive tried a number of them. I do a lot of flashing and arch is the only freshly downloaded ISO not seeming to work. It says the compression is corrupted? :person_shrugging:

I could try another package to use for flashing.(Gnome Disks)

Edit: I found impression which is a new package for flashing drives.

Okay so I don’t know but it’s a new Arch ISO sept 1/2026 plus i used the app impression and it worked fine. Installed Arch Hyprland. Trying to set it up but i get so frustrated because I just can’t get it right. I’m trying to do one thing at a time. Setting up the Way bar is causing me to get :enraged_face: It’s so hard because i just keep going around in circles because if it doesn’t work you have to do it again and again and again. I just don’t understand the syntax and they don’t explain it well enough. I have tried Hyprland so many times I’m ready to give up. I really like Omarchy but i don’t like the fact that they have all this AI stuff and mostly set up for a developer which I’m not. So it’s over the top but I really like the shell the, background, the way it works, the tiling, the keybindings etc. I just want it EOS! :sob:

Edit: At least I’ve gotten the Arch ISO to work.
