Greetings!
Is there a possibility of an individual tiling scheme for each virtual desktop? So that the layout of the tiles and their sizes are applied only to a specific virtual desktop and not to all at once.
You can do this with a kwin script called krohnkite, at work so no access to a linux box, but I think it is in the repos or aur.
Yes, I saw this option when looking for a solution…
Thanks! I’ll try
It looks like what you need. But I can’t figure out the settings yet
It turned out to be a good illustration of when the functionality of KDE is slightly lacking, and the functionality of a third-party solution is extremely redundant
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. But I will either have to “suffer” using the features of KDE, or look for a noticeably simpler solution to my question
At work, so no access to a linux box. But from memory:
Settings > Window Management > Kwin Scripts. Tick to activate, click the icon to the right of it’s name to open configure window.
It is 13:08 UK time, will be home around 17:30 (ish) I can post some screen shots etc etc.
Yes I installed it and launched it without any problems
The problem is that I am offered an almost complete equivalent of a tiling manager, which is redundant
If there is only one window, it always opens to the full screen in krohnkite. I can’t place one window in a quarter of the screen, which is done elementary using KDE tools. But in KDE there is no possibility of independent tile configuration, which is available in krohnkite.
It’s coming with plasma 6.4, so in a few weeks it will build in.
Hmmm… It’s worth looking at the implementation of this
You could do that with a window rule (so no krohnkite), place a window in a pseudo quarter tiling, using it’s title or class.
It would be great if I could at least understand what was written…
I am an ordinary, ordinary user
Which program? What is your screen resolution? And where do you want it? Upper Left/Right, Lower left/right?
It doesn’t matter at all.
In the attached video to the first message, you can see that changing the tile size on one virtual screen changes the tile size on another virtual screen in exactly the same way. I want the size of the tiles to be set independently on each virtual screen.
And that’s it
A quick scan of the Internet suggests that this issue began to be “actively” raised in early 2023. And yes, as @Schlaefer wrote, it is planned to implement this functionality in Plasma 6.4.0. It is expected that this will happen in June this year.
Perhaps it’s worth waiting, because none of the tested solutions match my desires.
