OK, it is emacs. The solution I had for Manjaro does not work here. Looking in to it. 2020-07-30 9:21 ➜ ~ ➜ emacsclient -e '(kill-emacs)' 2020-07-30 9:23 ➜ ~ took 1m 30s ➜ Above is the service files method of closing emacs, run from the command line - this is the problem!!

Also remember that you can add overrides for services using systemctl edit , then you can add in just the specific changes, e.g.:

[Service]
TimeoutStopSec=10

This means the packaged service file isn’t changed and those changes won’t be lost when the package is upgraded.
