The UK parliament passed bill to outlaw encryption

Seriously?
Jeez…I’ve thought of Germany a bit better than it turned out to be :joy:

When i was in school back in a day we had MS DOS with Basic and few games, that’s it.
Well also couple of computers with Windows 95 in whole class, which also had few games…

Teachers wasn’t really teaching us sh*t, i knew everything on my own from whatever sources that were outside of that classroom.

Back in my schooltimes… teacher gave us boxes full of these to build our own… Calculating Machine…

He’s way too positive for someone who knows perfectly well about hardware backdoors…But you have to start somewhere.

Oi mate, why are you helping paedophiles hide from the law?

On a serious note, I suspected the reason he is so optimistic about Linux and degoogled android in particular is that he is selling degoogled smartphones.

Nah i doubt it (at least not yet), because so far there’s no indication that specifically de-goolaged Goolag Pixel devices already done that, unlike Apple or anything that runs Qualcomm post M$ Pluton announcement…

But yeah, in the future that could be valid criticism.
I just think that he wants all normies to at least start with Linux, it’s like a minimum entry point this days…well unless you LFS :joy:

Fancy please the following scenario – it is less far-fetched than it has at first the appearance: In future man with funny sunglasses stands beside every public mailbox. If somebody comes who wants to throw a letter, man with a lenient smile keeps closed the letter slit and stretches the other hand: » Once the letter please. I’m just looking briefly purely, promised. «

EU tries exactly the same …

Danke, ich hasse es!

All governments / global structures were dreaming of this since it first became technically possible with China’s Xinjiang, and now 1st one in UK have finally pushed the gas to full throttle - they all are just racing their F1 cars with jet engines to who will become the one to rule them all in  :earth_africa:.

the great :control_knobs:

What I don’t understand, and correct if I’m wrong about this, is that some countries are trying to “treat” pedos as a sickness and not a crime, which by the way is completely wrong, they are predators and they will never stop, its who they are.

In my country, there is a killer that have done awful things, “maniaco do parque”, he was released last week and guess what ???
Arrested again for the same crime… His behavior while in prison was good so he was released…

I won’t get into politics right now, but you can imagine what side of political spectrum tries to release these predators.

In one hand they want to “spy” everyone, and in the other hand they try to release these predators in the society again ?

It’s very easy to understand under the frame of very well known modus operandi, allow me to quote OP:

It’s absolute classic.

As well as:

Divide and conquer

There is truly nothing new under the sun.

They just care for the predator, the victim is nothing for them.
That just show how they don’t care, they just want power, control…
They have their securities with guns, armored vehicles and keep shitting rules in our heads.
They are the anointed ones who know everything better than us…

I believe that the majority of  :earth_americas: can be summed up that in that it is the result of the exploitation of weak people and their fear.

I cannot see a reason why treating sexual attraction to children as a medical condition is incompatible with punishing child molestation and possession of child pornography through the criminal justice system. Most countries provide some kind of mental health support to prisoners who need it. Also Iif someone is trying their damndest to control an urge to do something that they know full well is morally wrong, we should be trying to help them. The law doesn’t punish people for being sexually attracted to children - it punishes them for actually try and harm children and secondary harms like possession of child pornography. This shouldn’t be a left-right issue - it’s just common sense. In fact I would argue that governments would be a lot more effective in protecting kids if they invested in medical and psychological interventions to prevent people with harmful sexual urges from acting on them than by setting up these mass surveillance systems.

well, I drunk a lot and I’ll answer this question after a long barbecue…

Predators can behave if their prey is not present. Does that make sense for you ?
They ambush, they plan, they go after and they execute, does that make sense for you ?

It is not just a feeling, it is someone that is bad, it is just like psychopaths, they don’t have feelings and don’t care about the damage they are doing, so as I see it, they are the worst possible people in the world.

If you want to “treat” them as sick people, I can’t help you.

For me, there are three possible ways to “treat” them, castration, chemical castration or death.

Can we stay close to the topic ? Our favorite  will be sad if the topic end up closed.

For all those who still believe that it is only about child pornography and terrorism…

Politicians call for chat control to be extended to other content

If chat control comes, it will also be used against other content. Europol calls for expansion to “other crime areas,” MPs to pornography, migration and drugs. Net blocks were also first justified with abuse and should then be expanded.

Europol wants to collect chat control data indefinitely

Europol wants unfiltered access to chat control data to train AI algorithms. That’s according to internal documents we publish. Two former EU police officials moved to the US organization Thorn, which is lobbying massively for the planned law.

Another example that the given purposes would not even work ienmal…

Geolitica’s predictive policing in NJ showed a dismal <0.5% success rate, questioning the efficacy and ethics of AI in crime prevention.

It never was strictly about one thing. It’s about stopping the use of these platforms for many types of criminality being hidden. It’s about many things. It’s about making platforms responsible for what happens on their platforms. It’s about protecting those who are vulnerable. It’s about being responsible human beings. It’s also about privacy and knowing that one can use a platform and not be subjected to these kinds of threats of criminality. E2EE was not designed to be a firewall for the criminal element to use at will to victimize others. The law is an attempt to help stop some of this. I for one applaud the efforts and good intentions albeit it’s difficult to achieve. There are always going to be negative aspects when it comes to change. Not everything fits perfectly and there will be a need to modify or make changes as things develop. There is no one solution to the problem. This is just a small part of it. If any of you or your family was a victim you would have a totally different view.

If a state has a reasonable suspicion that a person is using a platform to commit criminal offences they can already get a warrant to seize and search their devices. If the devices are encrypted, a court can order the owner to decrypt them. If the owner refuses, that is contempt of court and the state can incarcerate them until they purge their contempt by decrypting the device. What the state is demanding is that the police have the ability to search the private communications of law abiding citizens without needing to establish a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity taking place. Everyone is to be presumed a paedophile until proven innocent.

I simply do not trust the state with this kind of unlimited power to search and seize communications without a warrant.
