Wow, this was an excellent video. This is what Windows and licensed software in a nutshell has become. . . . Opensource all that way . . . . that’s the solution to this greed and corruption.
Rich;)

Hmm… Since I have paid licences for all three, I will try this in a VM and run it without a care in the world.
If it works, then I’ll redo it and actually pay attention to what is being done, then consider installing on real metal.
Could help with my attempts at convincing the creatives I know to switch to Linux.
except for pitstop adobe products are not great at all. they want more from you than they give to you by far.
gimp is overkill but has value–I’ve got to get comfortable with it too. plenty of photoshop replacements.
Something as sucky as InDesign can be replaced with Scribus.
/Of course the far superior Quark has unwisely took Linux off the table for decades./
There are also programs in the AUR that will scan film transparencies.
relish this. it will keep you young. At your 7 decades, I have to imagine it’s ‘been there/done that’ for you but it’s like that at 40-50 too.
You bought the ticket (Linux), so take the ride
Welcome to Linux, and just a suggestion: you may want to try RawTherapee instead of Darktable (or to install both alongside). Both are similar software for photos process, but they work differently. Personally I have switched from Darktable to RawTherapee about years ago and find it more accurate for my needs, but your workflow may differ. Just give it a try if you want. Good luck
I haven’t been there in many years. I’ve been using Linux in some form for 25+ years. BUT… the “Open apps, study them, use them. I need to study GIMP, Darktable, Inkscape” I went through all those years ago was glorious. That, and learning the ins and outs of Linux itself. A wonderful time for me. Tedious? Perhaps. But in a fun, necessary way.
I actually just realized the second link is from a different Youtuber, not from the same guy as from the first link but both still seem good. Just thought that should be worth mentioning.
Yeah I just realized that when waking up this morning.I found both guides still good, but for some reason I came across that forum topic and since both the video were about Photoshop and have the name Matt in it it made me think both were the same but you are right.
Thanks!
Could you please name some programs in AUR that scan film transparencies.
I know, that it’s interesting to study a new program.
Laziness - is our main enemy. )))
And I feel that Darktable is more powerful than Lightroom.
But some trifles in Linux apps can drive you over the edge.
For example. Many webservices ask you to upload image of a certain size in Megabites.
Some ask for images not more than 10 Mb, some - for not more than 20 Mb, etc.
I can easily set the needed size (or better say weight) of an image in Lightroom (in Export window), with no (visible) sacrifice in the quality, and I get image of, say 10 000x15 000 at 300 dpi and not more than 20 Mb in weight. But it’s impossible to do in Darktable. Why?
there was a scanner thread I was on about a month ago (here) and I found scanner software for a person I think, who wanted to scan transparencies with his/her scanner. Someone else found one too.
off the top of my head
Xsane
GScan2PDF
there’s a couple more
I have to find that thread later. throwing a turkey breast on the grill at present. get back later you
