And this isn’t their low end, nameless models. This is the high end Zbook Firefly. Not the current generation, it is only G10 (nearly 2 years old, 7940HS).
Decided to get the rest of my laptops swapped over to PTM7950 today. Did the E14 (not bad, not good), and the Zbook Firefly G10A (this mess).
Good thing is that now, I can’t get the Zbook over 92*C. It was hitting 98 with the fans on full afterburner mode, and now they’re only at supercruise while the temps are lower. I’d call that a success.
I bought a HP desktop once many years ago. Never again, the build quality was awful. I also made the mistake of buying one of their printers, which was quite good print quality but expensive to run. It didn’t like 3rd party cartridges at all.
Their business lines are actually great laptops, and most of their laser printers are still good. The multi-function color laserjet I have is a driversless device, so works without hplip for printing and scanning. I have several HP laptops (Elitebook 845 G11, Probook 445 G11, Zbook Firefly G10A) and all are fantastically well made devices. HP just…spooges the thermal compound on WAY too heavy (the other 2 I repasted months ago, but they were identical in their liberal application)!!! But the laptops themselves are AMAZING devices, and the Elitebook and Probook even offer good value for business machines (Zbook I got used so got a good value, but new they are NOT good value).
That said, I (personally, not like everyone has to act as I do) refuse giving them money when they are THAT anti-consumer even if it is in one (printer) side of their business, regardless how good their products might otherwise be.
Glad to hear your experience has been free of trouble with their products though!
Yeah, but they’re not the only ones like that with printers. Brother has done it, Epson has done it, almost everyone who makes inkjet printers has done that locking out 3rd party ink and refilled cartridges at SOME point. So it’s hard to find a working multi-function inkjet printer that will work on linux without dealing with a company that has anti-consumer stance. So I buy their laser printers that (mostly) doesn’t have that stance (there are a few that do).
