Testing Plasma 6 (Beta) on Endeavour OS - is this approach any good?

Yep, I just got around to trying the workaround (reboot) and read up and found no longer necessary! Yay, I love Linux development cycles. In Windows this would have been at least a six month test cycle to address an issue.

For me, I can’t do the get functions of widgets/wallpappers, it just shows a white window. Is that still broken for everyone?

nope, works fine here.

Do you have testing enabled or just kde-unstable? (looking for the difference)

just kde-unstable.

This is what I see if I try to get widgets:

Notice that there is a cut off in this screen as well. I suppose that is not a “new” bug?

I’m on unstable and testing.

I am also on “testing” and “kde-unstable” and I see the same thing where the upper part of what should be displayed in system settings is cutoff. I can often still click the cut-off item…but can’t see what the item is. :grinning:

Well maybe I’ll add testing back in and see if anything shows up at all on Wayland.
Whether it’s random chance or what, I tried with X11 and I could see the get new widget window, but not the backgrounds.

All seems to be rooted in what Metz pointed out:

There’s a bug in the QT 6.7 beta that anchors the UI layouts to the wrong place. I assume we didn’t experience the bug before because we didn’t even see these panels because of the “Settings bug”.

All these issue do not exist running the plasma beta on the currently stable QT 6.6.

That seems very plausible. I won’t report it as a new bug, then. Thanks!

I made the above screenshot on Wayland.
I’ll see if X11 looks any different.

BRB.

Edit: nope. X11 looks the same, including the cut off.

Any one else seeing this?

This is the add widgets window.

I start a search by entering “fok” and then in the top left 2 widgets seem to overlap, and 2 other widgets seem to have a rather random position in the available window.

(This is on X11; will revert back to Wayland and see if this still happens.)

Edit:

On Wayland* things look differently - or not.

Searching for 'fok" gives comparable but different results:

Searching for “lok” (in stead of “fok”) things look better:

I’ll see over at bugs.kde.org if this has been noticed by others already.

*Edit: typo (wrote “Plasma” where I meant “Wayland”).

Tried a few different searches here and the widgets seem to be neat and clean.

Thanks for testing.

@sammiev are you on QT6.6 or 6.7?

QT6.7 here

Hmmm, me too. Could this be QT6.7 related do you think? (I don’t want to report a bug over at KDE if the problem is caused by Arch’s choice to throw QT6.7 in the mix.)

Seen your screen shot and I’m not seeing the overlap and separation here, not sure what maybe causing the issue. Tried different widget searches and I can’t reproduce what’s happening to you. Sorry for not been more helpful.

You are being helpful by trying to replicate! :+1:t2:

BTW: Settings application is still not working as intended at places over at my end.
In the “About this system” the button to copy the system info (top right) does not work for me.
