Systemd-boot-snapshots?

Anybody using this and can attest to it’s reliability?

I have a new (to me) laptop and I’ll be doing a new installation. Kinda like to go with systemd-boot this time but I’d lose grub’s ability to boot snapshots. I’ve needed to do that once, but I might be overthinking the importance of it.

systemd-boot itseld is extremely reliable. It is very, very simple.

But, yes, it isn’t easy to make it support booting from a snapshot. Grub is better if you want that.

You can still restore a snapshot, but it isn’t nearly as simple as it is on grub.

As for the relative importance, it is hard to say. Some people swear by it and wouldn’t live without it. For me, outside of testing, I have never once hit a situation in which I would have wanted to boot off of or restore a snapshot on an Arch-based distro. I guess experience varies here.

I should have been more clear, you may have not understood the question completely…

systemd-boot-snapshots is software, similar to grub-btrfs, as I understand it. It apparently provides simple snapshot booting capability to systemd-boot.

It doesn’t look like that supports Arch-based distros.

Seems it is based on Ubuntu.

I didn’t recognize that. He offers Ubuntu packages. But how do you know it’s for Ubuntu only? Is it the initramfs thing (which I don’t fully understand)? Thanks for your help!

Yes, it is integrated into Ubuntu’s initramfs tooling specifically.

Limine supports it with btrfs.
