After updating my system and kernel, my computer no longer finishes starting and gets stuck on this screen. I am not sure how to provide more information from this, so please let me know what I can do to provide more information. It should also be noted that when I installed Endeavor OS, there was also a fallback option that appeared in the boot menu when I turned on my computer. I tried both the fallback (EndeavorOS (6.10.0-arch1-2-fallback)) and the regular one (EndeavorOS (6.10.0-arch1-2)) to no avail. I’m using systemd if that helps any.
I did stumble upon this thread, but I can’t seem to find how this person is running commands while in this stuck state. This screen I am stuck on does not respond to any keyboard inputs whatsoever. Apologies if it is stated how to do that in this forum thread. It is an extreme headache to scroll through a forum on a phone screen for me.
Again, I can’t give exact specs since I don’t really know how to do anything on this screen that would provide that information. Please let me know what I can do to provide more information about my system.
So I figured out how to get to the command line. I just held alt and started pressing random F keys until one of them got me to the command line. Probably not the best idea, but I have a headache and I just wanted to get back to using my computer. So what can I do here to provide more information to diagnose the issue? Edit: Ah, I see the journal file is mentioned in the thread. I probably need to find a way to get it off my my pc. I’m going to make some food and then attempt to set up basic FTP so I can grab the file from my phone and upload it.
In the meantime, before I get back with any results, if anyone has any good ideas about how I can give the journal, please let me know. All the results on Google have all this stuff about networking and stuff, as well as how to set it up for public connections. I don’t need any of that. I just need this FTP to be up temporarily, so my phone which is on the same network can access it. I don’t need any of this networking stuff or any of these advanced steps that are being found on Google for public connections.
The command at the bottom of the forum thread I linked earlier, did not work to fix the issue, because it was not recognized as a command on my system.
The solution from this thread did not work for me.
Attempting to do an Syu again doesn’t work. It just says there’s nothing to do. And after reinstalling Nvidia DKMS and rebooting, the same issue is still occurring.
I realize my hardware is probably relevant here. Here’s neofetch.
I’ve been trying to look up how to enable SSH so I can try SFTP instead into my system hoping it’d be easier than regular FTP, but Google keeps giving me results for SSHing from Arch into another system, which is not what I’m searching for, or how to install and use OpenSSH, which is definitely not necessary since the ssh command comes with the OS. So why would I want to install something else for it?
I finally managed to solve the issue. I managed to remove the conflicting package nvidia-settings-tkg with -Rdd, they wouldn’t remove before because apparently
it claimed steam and UMU proton required it.(???)
Once I removed that, I could rerun the nvidia-instcommand, and everything is back to normal.
