In the last one or two days there was a systemd update and a lot more. Kernel update was also included. It seems that stuck at switch root is fixed now.

systemd v257 solves the boot hang

It’s daunting the complexity of our systems and how many different ‘results’ we get as they differ slightly.
Glad it’s resolved though

I waited nearly a week to post the solution. In between there were at least 50 boot processes without stuck at switch root.
