I having frequent system freezes, like 1 at every 2 min, during 30+ secs, and I dont really know why. Seems random, but I think its worst when I do a IO operation to read/write some file, like opening an app or saving a file.
One think that took my attention during the boot was this:
SATA 1 is where my SO is installed, I using a BTRFS file system. My drive is KINGSTON SA400S37240G. The SMART reports that the drive is good: ssd_smart.pdf (44.8 KB)
Check your Bios settings for the SATA Controller. Make sure it is set to AHCI.
Yeah. It’s AHCI.
Just for context, I have another SSD with Windows and it’s working fine. So, I believe it’s not a hardware problem. I suspect it’s some config on my endeavour install or a problem with the SSD that has it installed.
Okay, I’m not some Linux expert, but what I can tell you is that every person I know that has had a Kingston A400 either got rid of it before it died prematurely, or it died prematurely and then they got rid of it, either way this model of SSD is notoriously unreliable and I have yet to see anyone talk about this SSD and say something good about it other than it being cheap when they purchased it.
The A400 is the modern king of shizzy SSD’s, replacing the top spot that was held by OCZ for so many years.
Heres my two beans in the jelly bean jar, ditch the A400 before it causes you even more problems and Buy a TLC NAND SSD from a brand like Samsung or Micron, at least on the lower priced TLC NAND drives both of those other two brands sell stuff that isn’t complete rubbish.
I have lost count of how many people I have come across with strange system performance gremlins and every time replacing the A400 with almost any other SSD solved the issues.
Just do a quick search on the internet for Kingston A400 SSD Failures, and make sure you’ve got a few days spare because you’ll be reading for a long time.
