Sway, anyone?

I’ve been hearing that for years. When it actually seems like that’s going to happen I’ll try out sway.

I’m certainly up for giving it a try as I’m only starting out with WMs. However when I install it next to i3 and then log into sway it seems to be picking up config files from i3 (and advising of errors), which I don’t really want to mess with. I assume there is an easy way round that, and if so could I have some pointers? Many thanks.

ah…

If you already use i3, then copy your i3 config to ~/.config/sway/config and it'll work out of the box. Otherwise, copy the sample configuration file to ~/.config/sway/config. It is usually located at /etc/sway/config. Run man 5 sway for information on the configuration.

I’m using only Swaywm, no more i3
it’s reading the config file from the i3 directory in my home directory, since I previously installed i3 and then switched to sway.
and then I have adapted my config to sway

I’m using sway as some sort of backup WM, in case Xfce breaks.
Or in case I need lots of terminals side by side

If you’re coming from i3, don’t forget to switch your usual i3 tools for their sway equivalents (swaybar, swaylock, wofi, etc.).
