Suggestion - Include endeavouros boot splash theme by default, like opensuse

Just a small suggestion to have a simple loading (boot-splash) screen on default installs, when starting or shutting down session, for example like this (source - https://github.com/iWisp360/plymouth-eos-spinner-bgrt).

Also requesting an entry in discovery.endeavouros.com to set up plymouth and custom boot splash for grub and systemd bootloaders.

Thank you.

Disabling bootsplash, uninstalling anything plymouth, removing quiet and splash from boot parameters and setting the grub timeout to a max of 1 second is among the first things I do whenever I use/test a distro which implements these stuff.

I need to get to see those boot lines as soon as possible when I boot/reboot my system.

To each their own :hugs:

I prefer seeing the boot log scrolling by, so that’s a hard “no” from me. That said, I’ll probably use whatever the distro defaults to, because I’m pretty lazy!

I think in a distro with rolling release model, it’s important to see that everything works. Boot takes exactly same time and you easily see, if there are any errors.

Thanks for the suggestion @anon11510969.

We don’t have plymouth enabled by default because it makes troubleshooting more difficult and doesn’t really follow our philosophy or the desires of a lot of our user base.

That being said, we recognize that a some of users prefer it and we welcome people to install it and use it if that is their preference.

Ultimately, we try to offer a functional system that people can customize to meet their needs.

Yes, just to say ‘me too’, this is a very polarized topic (even if a small one), and people will feel strongly about it.

Agreed….I want the boot log…no “pretty” graphics…just the facts.

Pretty is nice. Pretty is fun! Pretty gives new users a polished, confident feeling, that this distro is more than just some person putting a distro out there.

Endeavour is a terminal-based distro, so that sets some expectations of how things will be done. For me, that includes seeing the boot log and any error messages first thing.

That’s the joy of Arch. Want to add chrome to your setup? Go for it! We’d love to see what you come up with and may even have help for questions along the way. Cheers!
