Storage of desktop backgrounds

I’m a little confused. Where does Endeavour Xfce store its desktop backgrounds? I see two locations:
/usr/share/endeavouros/backgrounds/eos_wallpapers_classic/
and also
/usr/share/backgrounds/
What is the explanation for this?
Suppose I download desktop backgrounds, where should I store them?

Thanks for your help.

You can store backgrounds wherever you like. I’m on KDE so can’t answer on XFCE specifics, but I’ve put all mine in a Backgrounds directory in Home, then pointed the settings to look there instead of the default location(s). Having them within Home makes it easy to add and remove at will, and you can pick the up same collection again if you reinstall.

I have them under ~/.local/share/backgrounds.

The only time that backgrounds location matters is if you’re using one for your login background. For example, on KDE the sddm service that logs you in is run by the sddm user. So if you tried to use a personal background (in your home directory), it would not be able to access it.

I’m not an appointed expert of XFCE.
Just created a directory
~/Pictures/Backgrounds
and downloaded some pictures into it.
xfdesktop-settings
sees them as Wallpapers for my desktop
You can add any new ones by selecting Folder Other…

Im not on EOS but i’m use xfce

I store my downloaded wallpapers . or desktop backgrounds , if that’s what you mean , under pictures - wallpapers

I created that folder but you can store it anywhere you want

I think what you asking is Suppose I download desktop backgrounds, where should I store them?

uhm , anywhere you want

when yo want to use it for , duh . your desktop background / wallpaper , in xfce you right click on desktop .click desktop settings , and under the folder tab you choose where to find the wallpapers .(i think it might be under “other” , which would take you to the file explorer )

hope it makes sense

I’m using XFCE in all of my systems. If you go to settings for your workspace (sorry, have no english wording here) and look for backgrounds, you can pick any directory holding your backgrounds. You may pick one for each workspace and dynamically switch them.
→ right click on empty space, select settings, and pick your folder and any options.

This is from a package.

This is a common path.
( LightDM, for example, would look here for wallpapers. )

Anywhere in your $HOME (~/Pictures ?).
