Starting with virt-manager

It is simple, so it boots with bios.

Not really, it is a wrapper that uses some related programs like virt-install, virt-viewer and virsh.

But probably can start virt manager profile too if you setup efi ?

Manuel I don’t understand the need for an additional GUI tool. Can you explain? I mean virt-manager is already a GUI. And it has a setup wizard for a new machine.
Not sure what I’m missing here.

I had hard time getting virt-manager to work. And wanted to learn how these tools should be used, because I’ve never used them before. This is much simpler than virt-manager.

Of course if one gets virt-manager working as expected, then no need for another similar tool. That’s why it is in my personal repos.

The virt-manager seems to use a different place to store the image files. So at least directly it is not available, but maybe with a small hack.

Idk vm’s from virt-manager you can see also with gnome boxes

I also had a hard time with getting virt-manager working which is strange because i used it before but over a year ago or more. Maybe 2 years but i finally figured out the settings on it and it’s working where virtual-box is not.

If you have some time and willingness, could you write a short tutorial about using the virt-manager?
It would certainly help people who have had problems using it, especially now when virtualbox has big problems. At least I would appreciate it!

I could do that some time this week. It’s not the problem installing it. It is the way you have to start it and set the settings when you create the VM. I find it so strange compared to VirtualBox. The only other thing I don’t like about it is it is harder to set the display to match the screen size compared to VirtualBox. Every desktop seems a little different in that regard. Virtualbox seems to work the same all the time. When I launch the iso in VirtualBox I set the view to the monitor size before it gets booted up and it always works.

From time to time, I try to make virt-manager work. I nearly succeeded with an old Antergos iso image but it blocked when opening Internet connection.

I tried to set up the NAT interface: https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/TaskNATSetupVirtManager but it seems something is missing related to iptables…

any idea on how to proceed?

I wrote a tutorial for it.

Maybe try with root permissions:

su
virt-manager

you have two session you can make with virtualbox  i mostly use user session am also a part of kvm group…
