Yer and no, I’ve found people get impatient if they can see you are online and often forget that you might be doing something else.

One problem with a lot of these things is they can show that you are “Online” even though you already left.
Another one is that the only people that will benifit from seeing who is online are other regulars. Visitors wont know any of the names nor really care. Most just want help with issue so they can go back to their lives.
Then there is the fact that some of us may not wish it to be known we are online. I mean Many of us do choose privacy over convenience.

From my POV, no one is ever online and they will respond whenever they respond

I’m not entirely sure, I would see this as kind of similar to read-reciepts and other statuses on messaging apps where it can kind of creep on affecting privacy a bit in knowing when you are around or read something. I personally have EOS logged in on my phone so it probably lists me as online when I could be outside or on a train, or bored at work.
I have seen this online list feature on another discourse forum but I cannot remember which one since I kind of passed through it and have no account and didn’t recognise the user names anyway.
Otherwise currently I know when someone is around on the forum or available once they comment. If forum admins added this feature than that how it goes but hopefully there is a setting to keep out of that online list visibility though.

This is what I tell people who have my phone number, I often leave it at home and even if I have it on me I don’t tend to answer or reply to people until I am free.

Wherever an app, website, or program can see me, I’m either invisible or marked as away. No exceptions.

I like to dwell in the shadows and step out of it when I fell like it. So I wouldn’t be so happy about it.

if I am getting the choice of present or invisible then I will certainly exercise it.

No. That’s more days. 359 is a reference to Wolf 359, where the first battle between the United Federation of Planets (from Star Trek) and the Borg took place.
