Thanks for the info. I’m definitely not (that) old yet.
The price is right (£60) and, from previous experience, NUCs are well built.
I have developed a liking for “feeble computing”, probably because I am getting feeble myself, and am going to squeeze as much out of this as I can with EOS
I don’t blame you though, I love it as well to an extent. Now that Intel has announced the next gen of their feeble cpu’s, I’m already on AliExpress every day looking for laptops built on the new i3-N300 to get to replace my Jasper Lake N5095…
By coincidence this was also half-price - £22 rather than £45. (Microsoft peripherals are much lower profile than they used to be, but this Intellimouse Pro is excellent).
Razer blackwidow v3 pro + Razer Viper ultimate, brougt home today.
Good lord, I’m not even a gamer. OK, I play strategy games for intensive periods of a couple of weeks, every 3rd or 4th year or so. But the backlight is invaluable, as I tend to wear out normal keyboards. And mice as well, the middle button usually gives in first. I figured a premium gaming mouse would be better quality.
I bought the following Motherboard & RAM
and combined them with a pico PSU and a modified case I had taking up shelf space
assembled & ready for testing. Note the pico PSU plugged into the ATX power connector.
EndeavourOS KDE Plasma installed.
The idle Watts from the wall outlet in the picture is 7 Watts. Most of the time idle is 8 to 9 Watts.
The highest I saw during EnOS install was momentarily 17 Watts, but mostly jumping between 14 to 16 watts. The install feels smooth and quick.
I think this will be my Wife’s new Linux daily driver. This is more than enough for her use case and a reasonable power consumption.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention. The specs for this motherboard says 8 GB DDR4 2400 RAM Maximum.
I personally can confirm that the J5040 itx will work with 16 GB of RAM maximum, and have 2 of these motherboards plugging away with 16 GB RAM. I have read in reviews that it will also handle 32 GB of RAM maximum but I have not confirmed this.
Have been wanting to get a new bike as soon as the winter ends, so that I can resume biking to/from the uni again (my old bike has a bent rim

More SKINS!! This one they had a template for, so it was precut and I just had to apply it;
But THIS one, no template for this laptop, so I had to measure and cut everything custom myself:
!
I just got this bad boy. It is Lenovo Think Centre M720 with i5 8400 and 16GB of RAM.
I think I put this in my living room and use it as media-PC
