It’s not alien, and there’s plenty of advantages, yes. But relaxation is the polar opposite of exercising. They’re not in any way related. I have never in 50 years felt the SLIGHTEST bit of relaxation while exercising.
Now, AFTER exercising, yeah, relaxation is even nicer. But while exercising, relaxation is nowhere within light years to be found.
There’s exercise and there’s exercise. If a cardio class at the local gym is ones choice in exercise, then that’s likely to feel more like a physical attack, than physical relaxation
That said, a relaxing walk, or relaxing bike ride, or relaxing swim, or relaxing skate, a relaxing stretches class… are all rather… relaxing. And yet, a form of exercise.
Then, there’s also the mental side of it. Even an energetic class can be mentally relaxing, if it permits one to switch off the bustle and noise of the day.
Definitely gotta disagree. Again, decades of walks, stretches, swims, bike rides, weights, various machines. Never felt even the most miniscule amount of relaxation during it, not once, not ever. Sometimes enjoyable, but still not relaxing that I’ve ever felt. Never learned to skate well enough to do that very often, so that’s just pure anxiety whenever I choose to attempt it.
Yeah, well, I haven’t “exercised” (as most people recognize the term) since the 90s. But I’m doing pretty damn well. No complaints, not even from my doctor - who seems to think that I exaggerate my bad habits . I don’t. Yet I remain absurdly healthy.
It’s all in your genes. Good genes = do anything, you’ll be OK. Bad genes, you ain’t gonna last long no matter what you do.
Please note that I am not a doctor, and am possibly either insane or in deep denial.
I learned to skate along with my daughter back when I was 40. The skateboard and learning to ollie and kick-turn in a bowl was way cheaper than the alternative crisis: the red sportscar
During a period that shall not be named that involved extensive lock-downs, skating with my daughter, while energetic, was simultaneously, gloriously relaxing. It brought calm and blissful mundane normality to our day.
If we’re talking about exercise. . . it doesn’t get easier with age. I’m glad I walk and cycle at my age. I cycled 2100 miles last year and am trying to keep it up this year and forward. I’m now walking more now also. It’s been very beneficial and keeps me away from the doctors office.
I do grappling to relax. Nothing relaxes you more like choking the crap out of another human. And I do weightlifting to exercise. To totally push myself physically. Also walks in the woods or on the sea ice with the dogs off leash is super relaxing. Both mentally and physically.
