In short, when I was hooking up my speakers to this compact, fully integrated amplifier from Fosi Audio, the V3 stereo model to be precise, one of the flimsy binding post broke on me and I directly ordered replacement parts. Those still haven’t arrived yet. And thus, for the time being, they’re connected in a janky way as I can’t wait anymore to test it finally.
Bought that amplifier used, sourced locally via stealbay. Slightly used with the small switching power supply 32V and 5 Amps.
Currently, this barebones amp which only has inputs for a single RCA device and speaker outputs as well as 3.5 mm pre-out, is on sale directly via Aliexpress and could be bought new for as little as $45.00 w/o psu, $60 with 32V 5A and $85 with the 48V 5A PSU. I paid a little more than that, as I don’t really like to order out of China, only to save a little bit of money. And would have to be shipped around the globe.
As they’re pushing their V3 mono amp as well as the ZA3 which is comparable in specifications… this stereo version of the V3 is on sale, I guess.
So far. I don’t have issues to drive my vintage Canton GLE 70 loudspeakers. Even if they’re rated for 70 watt per channel at 4 Ohms nominal. I might not be able to drive them with 100 or even 120 watt per channel, as the PSU is only 32V 5A and would only deliver up to 160 watt in total. But that’s okay as I’m still keeping my other amp(s).
It just kind of odd that this amp, which isn’t much larger than the palm of my hand, is driving the 280mm/10.25" woofers of my loudspeakers without much effort so far. Expected much worse heat dissipation. And It seems for my uses I won’t need a cooling solution.
At the moment. Just 34°C on the surface of the housing which is nothing essentially.
But I must say that I’m quite impressed and I’m a bit curious how that little amp would work with my record player… but I’ don’t have a phone preamp other than those with are integrated into my other amps.
For the time being… I couldn’t say no to 2 months of tidals trial for the obligatory fee of 1,-€ per month.
I’m having a lot of fun buying watches from AliExpress.
The latest is a Steeldive. Since I already have a couple of watches in this style that I wear on their steel bracelets, I decided to put this one on a nylon NATO G10 strap. This particular strap is temporary, I have one on the way that more closely matches the dial color.
42mm, Seiko NH36 automatic mechanical movement, sapphire crystal. About $75 USD on sale and with coupons. A good value overall, but there are some compromises in manufacturing - mainly the edges of the rotating bezel, which are pretty sharp. I’ll be lightly hitting it with a fine file. The steel bracelet also has kinda sharp edges, but I’m not using it, so no problem. Other than that, I can’t complain. I’m not a fan of the brand name or logo, which I find respectively hokey and ugly, but I can live with both.
Obviously according to my partner, I haven’t bought anything IT wise for some time
Between us, I may have accidentally purchased:
Samsung 990 Pro 2Tb NVME SSD
Sapphire RX 6800XT Graphics Card (not new, but new to me)
Obviously that Sunday afternoon I spent in my office doing ‘very important work’ had nothing to do with setting up the aRGB Endevour theaming on the graphics card.
I use OpenRGB but due to reasons (something to do with the kernel not making something available) OpenRGB on Linux doesn’t work with the RGB on graphics cards, but the Sapphire card card has an aRGB input header on it, so it is connected to my motherboard and I use OpenRGB to set the RGB on the motherboard.
Nothing fancy but it sure beats having the bluetooth one just decided to stop working when your in the middle of typing something out. I love the big letters. It has three colors Red Blue and Purple.
As I’ve upgraded my system with an dedicated DAC (SMSL SU-1) as well as a integrated amplifier (Fosi Audio V3) …
I was a bit curious what kind of audio quality I could achieve with these rather inexpensive audio components. In short : I wanted to apply room correction via parametric equalization.
Thus, I scored an rather inexpensive USB calibration mic used and did some audio measurements in the past days.
In short, the (desired) curve in red (“harman house curve”), first picture are the measured results. And the second one the (theoretical) frequency response after the equalization.
Bought this with gift-card I got as a Christmas-present. 1400W, so car should be warm when it needs to be.
In case you don’t know what this thing is and how it works, this heater is connected to the car’s block heater via outlet on the legroom of the front passenger-seat. When block heater is then connected to outlet, this thing starts blowing hot air to inside.
Extremely handy especially on really cold winter mornings.
Walked into Goodwill a few weeks ago, and saw these. Had to see how much they wanted for them. They was asking $25.00 a piece. There was four of them so it cost me a Benjamin to take them home.
Nice find, this is the type of furniture I like as well, maybe one day I will come across something similar, it’s harder to find furniture like this now.
