šŸŽø Share Your Favorite Undiscovered/Underappreciated Bands

There Are a Lot of Bands/Artists out There That Are Either Criminally Underappreciated or Undiscovered/New.

  • SHARE YOUR FAVORITES!

I’ll start with a band called The SHFT. I’ve only been able to find them via YouTube and Instagram.

I hope there’s more to come. Because both of these are bangers! :fire: :collision:

NICE! Just skimmed through several tracks. Really digging the vibe. Their website is bookmarked! Thanks for sharing that.

Sadly, Degree Of Arc hasn’t released anything since 2018. I have their catalog of 4 releases from 2012–2018. Stellar instrumental rock/math-rock.

  • The slow acoustic build on this track is amazing.

When I was in Omaha for a couple of months about 20 years ago, I got hooked on a local indie band called ā€œLiquidStaticā€, they have two CD’s as far as I know (I have both) but have dropped off the scene. They have two songs listed here and a YT video here.

I only post this here because there aren’t many who realize the Prophets Of Rage ever existed.

Formed in 2016 and lasting until 2019, the group consisted of members of Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy -

From Rage and Audioslave - Bass: Tim Commerford - Guitar: Tom Morello - Drums: Brad Wilk
From Public Enemy - Chuck D and DJ Lord
From Cypress Hill - B-Real

Oingo Boingo is an 80’s band (with bleed in from the 70s and into the 90s) from California that just never caught on except on the West Coast and to an extent in NV and AZ. A shame. It was Danny Elfman’s band - you may know of him from Tim Burton movie soundtracks.

My ringtone for years - Wild Sex in the working class:

One of my favourite bands that never ā€œmade itā€

They were one of the very first bands I saw in concert growing up in California (FishBone is the another before Lalapalooza tours were a thing). I’ve got all their CDs. Very niche. ā€œCinderella Undercoverā€ is one of my favs.

A few years ago I became a fan of Blood Stained Child, a Japanese band that merges electronic music with metal, which I had never thought would work.

While the early works (for instance Silence of Northern Hell, the titular song from the 2002 album) sound like pretty classical death metal, the sound transformed more and more into an electronic direction (heard for instance on Hyper Sonic from the 2005 album Idolator) over to a (for me) very interesting merge of electronic and metal instruments, resulting in songs like Stargazer or Electricity from the 2011 album Epsilon. There are still stronger vocals on the album, but I found the transformation interesting.

Both music styles influenced me during my formative years, and they have rarely been merged.

Edit: I haven’t been keeping up with them, listening to older albums so far. But I took a look at more current works, and they can still kick you in the nuts.

in 1995 I discovered Shootiz Groove opening for Downset. Their show was better than the headliner’s. This hip hop/metal blend with two very good MCs blew us away. There are shifts in rhythm, calm then an explosion. That made their approach very original (at the time we still had the Judgment Night album, a reference point for the genre). Their album Jammin’ in Vicious Environments (J.I.V.E.) seems to me one of the best produced in this style.

I remember Shootyz Groove! I haven’t thought about them in ages.

I understand. I listen to them from time to time. They disappeared without a trace, and mentioning them is a kind of tribute — both to them and to the 90s, which saw quite a few really good bands that were also forgotten.

Ok, here’s my pop-punk hidden gem, a female-fronted trio from Columbus that sounds like early 90s Jawbreaker or Green Day, with a little more gas in the tank. I saw them live one time in 2011 and they were super cool. The band even emailed me a couple of mp3s before they broke up which I don’t think ever got released. I’m not sure if they played music after this band. I still crank both of their EPs from time to time.

Symphonic industrial/cyber metal - the band’s more recent material hasn’t been my thing for the most part, but the five-track run from ā€œXenonā€ to ā€œTartarusā€ on this album is phenomenal.
