I lasted two weeks using KDE. Not having access to the overview, panel, and workspaces, as well as everything by pressing the Super key made me feel very claustrophobic. Now on bazzite-deck-gnome.
Still figuring out how to extract the Return to Game Mode shortcut command since I want to deactivate the Logo Menu built-in extension, and it seems like they only put the command there. Ideally, I’d like to create a custom power menu entry to return to game mode, or create a custom right-click menu entry for Steam on my panel. Speaking of which, Lutris and Steam’s positions are switched LOL. It should be Lutris (for Super+8, mirroring my desktop setup) then Steam (Super+9).
Heh, I’m just way too used to pressing Super and seeing my desktop overview, workspaces, 9 favorite apps, and immediately being able to type whatever I need to search. I can’t deal with too many keybinds either, that’s why the Super way is essential to me. Not having that in KDE (and other DEs that don’t have it) makes me feel like I can’t do anything efficiently. Plus unfortunately I don’t do well with Windows-style (and apparently KDE-style) virtual desktop implementation/presentation, one I can’t immediately visualize and “understand” with gestures.
I feel you though, we feel at home best in the DE we’re used to. Using KDE just frustrates me and I don’t want to lose my hair just from managing files in desktop mode Deck
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately it wasn’t just the lack of Super overview, a bunch of other things were also holding me back from comfortably and efficiently using desktop mode, both when hand-held and when docked. A lot of things just didn’t sit well with me, and KDE Connect won’t detect my GSConnect devices unless I plug the Deck to LAN, even after making sure the firewall isn’t blocking either of the two, etc.
I’m happily back on GNOME now, everything works fine and it’s a joy to use again. Appreciate the tip again!
