Tough choice man.

I can see a case for both.

Considering where I am at in life right now, I’d go with #2.

But just barely.

Back on dwm, guess what? Nothing’s changed other than the wallpaper.

I’ve been experimenting with the theming functionality on my Lilidog installation. Here’s Lilidog’s wallpaper selection dialog (after I added a few wallpapers from prior Lilidog versions):

Here’s Lilidog’s theme selection dialog:

By default, selecting a window-manager theme also selects an aesthetically compatible icon theme. However, this linkage of window-manager and icon themes can be toggled on and off with the “Auto Icons” button you see in the screenshot above. For example, you might select an icon theme without Lilidog’s tools, but then use Lilidog’s tools to select a new window-manager theme without changing your preferred icon theme.

Using Lilidog’s tools, I selected a new wallpaper and a new window-manager theme (accepting Lilidog’s associated icon theme), ending up after only a few mouse clicks with this desktop:

You said you mostly need your computer not to die at the moment, which makes it sounds like you are busy. Hence I’d recommend the more productive option easier on the eyes, #2

Laptop look, very basic.

Jumped ship to Fedora 41 sooner than expected. Switching base from 40 to 41 was also simple - just needed to adjust several lines on Github and done! The upgrade was just like another weekly update. This is nice, I’ve gotten closer to my ideal computer.

Using kernel-blu here too now and I’m pretty happy with it. Stock Fedora kernel with TLP had so-so responsiveness; Blu kernel with TLP doesn’t feel as lethargic and feels nicer to use overall while still being power-efficient.

P.S. Still waiting for the new Pantheon version so I can try out their Wayland implementation :eye:

Still exploring Plasma 6 and trying to work to what I feel it does best. This cell shaded wallpaper I found goes well with the stock Breeze icon set. It also matches well with one of the default Audacious skins.

I love seeing this stuff with Lilidog–the more you show the more I want to make it a #2. stable though for an unrated deb? is the Mate?

I went 38-39 seamlessly but then I bailed. Stable distro but bored me. Most Fedorans sells every Big Switchover likes its potential doomsday but I never noticed. You art is great!

I love me the idea of WM–especially the minimal real estate-- but when explore, I miss the conventional stuff. What do you do without a bar? can you live with right-click? clock? do you just get used to it? looks great.

you know, when I look back, I can’t think of a time when I didn’t. I am a tiny minority who has never scrolled my phone or been distracted walking a dog–they always have my full attention. Go Jo Stafford!

@UncleSpellbinder love the minimalism here. Saw a series of space theme wallpapers today and i thought of you. One was an astronaut in some burned out building looking at the graffiti and logos on the wall. I thought what place for EOS…anyway rocking your psychedelic one this week.

Usually I don’t like it to deliver the bad news.
But it seems like there has been a data breach during testing.
